Pruning Thyme for ShapingĪll thyme, whether it is upright thyme or creeping thyme, tends to get a little wild looking if not shaped regularly. This should be done yearly for the best health of the plant. Using sharp, clean shears, cut these back by two-third. In late summer, after the thyme plant has flowered, select the one-third oldest stems on the plant. When you trim thyme for light rejuvenation, you are basically ensuring that your thyme plant doesn’t become too woody in the future. Repeat the process the next year until your thyme plant has returned to growing younger, more tender stems all over the plant. Using sharp, clean shears, cut these stems back by half. In late fall, after the first frost, select one-third of the oldest and woodiest stems on your thyme plant. Hard rejuvenation pruning normally take a few years to complete. Sometimes, a neglected thyme plant may need to be pruned back hard to remove woody growth and encourage tender, usable growth. In most cases, thyme plants don’t need hard rejuvenation pruning because they are normally harvested on a regular basis and harvesting prevents the thyme plant from becoming too woody. How to Prune Thyme Pruning Thyme for Hard Rejuvenation Let’s look at why and how to prune thyme in these different ways. Harvesting – Anytime during active growth (spring and summer).Light Rejuvenation – After blooming in the summer.Hard Rejuvenation – Late fall after first frost. There are four ways of pruning thyme plants and they are: The right time to trim thyme will depend on the kind of pruning you plan on performing on the plant. Keep reading to learn how to cut thyme so that it grows best for you. Taking the time to trim thyme not only creates a nicer looking plant, but also helps improve the amount you can harvest from the plant. Thyme plants, like most woody herbs, do best when they are pruned regularly. Back outside, to the right you’ll find a group of Hollow praying to an obelisk, and are unfortunately kneeling between you and a nice Estus Shard. There are two doors here - and both are locked, because things are never that easy. Enter through the first doors, you’ll find a main altar with a Bonfire with a Notched Whip in the corner. You’ll come upon the main entrance to the Cathedral. He hasn’t really mastered the more advanced fire spells - but he does know how to light himself on fire and run screaming at you ready to explode, so turn around and outpace him and he’ll explode on his own. Past the next gate, you can spy a lone Hollow with a flame in his hand - an Acolyte of sorts. Check where the first sniper was patrolling to grab a Large Soul of an Unknown Traveler. Just always be aware of your surroundings, as the hounds can come from any angle. There are three of them spaced out, all guarded by dogs, so use the trees as cover, and if you have a shield - block the dog’s pounce and retaliate while behind trees before you dash to fight the first sniper on the right, and the other two near the second gate. This next area has many Bone Hounds lurking among the trees, with Sniper Hollow patrolling the wall. Grab the Spider Shield from his body and continue up the stairs past the first gate. Like the knight, he’ll also fling throwing knives to upset you, so keep mobile and bait out his axe swings to retaliate, and watch for his warcry. No doubt by now you’ve seen another enemy guarding the gate - a brigand who bears an axe and a spider shield. If you go right from the staircase, you’ll find another path that goes left and then curving right into a ditch that leads up above the path, ending high above the main gate where a corpse holds a Crest Shield. When he’s gone, grab the Paladin’s Ashes at the bottom, and look to the left of the stairway to find a little path that leads up to a vista overlooking the swamp, and a Titanite Shard hiding along the right wall. Attack cautiously, but don’t worry too much with your close proximity to the Bonfire. This enemy wields a large sword and a dagger in his left hand, and will also throw knives at you. Continue on the path until you find a Bonfire at the foot of a great stairway.īefore heading up, look around the left for a small path leading below the Bonfire, where a corpse is guarded by an Exiled Knight. If you drop off the path where the Butchers were, you can chase down a Crystal Lizard for his Twinkling Titanite, and another up on a ledge for another Twinkling Titanite, and find a corpse holding a full Herald Set by the fire, including the Herald Helm, Herald Armor, Herald Gloves, and Herald Trousers. Look for a path to the left of where you first saw the Crystal Sage in the Road of Sacrifices, and travel up the winding paths that cross two Butchers with cages of corpses, and an Evangelist down by a pyre. Now that you have semi-retired, you and your wife, Lisa, have moved to Hawaii.ĭr. James Dobson: Well, that's where you and I first developed our friendship and our relationship. She did not have a relevant past medical history nor did she use any long-term medications. The patient worked as a nurse and reported dull pain throughout the day that worsened by the end of her shift, thereby restricting her from functioning efficiently in her demanding job. We reviewed a 46-year-old female patient in the clinic who experienced atraumatic right ankle pain over the past 3 years. those larger than 150 mm 2) of the talus with calcium phosphate injection leading to good clinical patient outcomes. Here, we present a novel arthroscopic technique for managing large subchondral cysts (i.e. Conventional open surgical techniques carry approach-related morbidity, and arthroscopic techniques are restricted to repairing small lesions (i.e. Surgical treatment of these lesions depends on the lesion’s stage, location and size. They are devoid of soft tissue attachment and lack sufficient blood supply, leading to poor healing and complications such as osteonecrosis. These lesions are challenging to treat because of a large articular surface area, comprising 60% of the total talar body surface area. Subchondral talar cysts are osteochondral defects in the talus and are a source of chronic ankle pain. Both tolerated the surgery well, with significant reductions noted in MOXFQ scores at the 1-year follow-up. This case series presents two patients who underwent subchondroplasty: a 44-year-old female nurse with atraumatic right ankle pain of 2 years with a CT scan revealing a large subchondral cyst over the medial talar dome and a 55-year-old male chemical plant worker with left ankle pain following a biking accident 6 years ago whose CT scan too showed a large subchondral cyst in the medial talus. Subchondroplasty involves arthroscopically approaching the cyst and injecting it with calcium phosphate paste injection, which undergoes an endothermic process and crystallizes in a manner that resembles cancellous bone to fill the defect. It avoids soft tissue scarring, the need for osteotomies, bone grafting and its associated complications as seen with conventional approaches. Subchondroplasty is a novel and minimally invasive technique used to treat large subchondral talar cysts. Though it is not required to make an account to simply browse the website, certain forums and features are inaccessible to unregistered users, such as the ability to post and enter the chat. Mugen Free For All contains various forums and sub-forums where users can post M.U.G.E.N-related content and links, so others may view, download or comment about them the website also features sections dedicated to non-M.U.G.E.N activities, as well as the chat and status update feed. Forum, request directory, release directory, character collections Everything in her said to hold on to it, that's all she had known for years, living cluttered had become normal to her. What's interesting is, the authorities didn't make her throw away the trash, it was her choice and eventually she decided to do it, but it wasn't easy. God has you hearing this, because he wants to do an intervention, he wants to help you clear out the worry, the offense, the guilt, the bitterness, those things that are cluttering your life. And I wonder how many of us are hoarders in our minds, we're not letting anything go, there's so much clutter, we can't enjoy our life. She was so focused on holding on to everything, she didn't realize it was limiting her life. It seemed obvious to everyone, all she was doing was keeping trash, but she couldn't see it. The lady told how that belonged to her children, that admits something to her and to put it back. At one point this man picked up an old popsicle wrapper, looked like there were thousands piled up in the corner, he asked if he could get rid of it. They went around to the side door, barely squeezed in. They knocked on the front door, but she couldn't open it. It got so bad, the authorities came to do an intervention. You can imagine how it smelled, how unhealthy it was. There was a small path to the kitchen to the bathroom and to a little place to sleep. And this one lady lived by herself in a two-story house, but you couldn't get upstairs, she had it so piled full of trash: old newspapers, empty cereal boxes, cans from food that she had eaten 30 years ago. I saw a documentary about hoarders, these are people that never throw anything away. They may come, but you don't have to hold on to it. You have to be proactive when it comes to keeping your mind in peace, because all through the day there's clutter, there's noise there's jealousy, there's hurts, there's a offenses. The scripture tells us to guard our minds. You can clear out the clutter, you can get rid of the negative things that are stealing your peace, taking your joy, draining your energy. I may not see a way, but God, I know you have a way". When the medical report is not good, when the contract doesn't go through, when you're in a legal situation, you can hold on to it, live worried, thinking "What am I going to do?" or you can let it go and say, "God, I know you're fighting my battles, I know what's meant for harm you're turning to my advantage. When you go through a disappointment, something doesn't work out, you can hold on to it, live discouraged or you can let it go and say, "God, I know you have something better. The past is over, this is a new day, I'm moving forward". You can hold on to it, go around down on yourself or you can let it go and say "Father, thank you that I am forgiven. When we make mistakes guilt will come, condemnation telling us how we don't measure up. You can't stop negative things from coming, but you can keep them from stay. If you're going to reach your destiny, you have to clear out the clutter. You weren't created to live worried, guilty, bitter, upset. And we wonder: "Why we don't enjoy life? Why we're not passionate about dreams? Why we can't sleep at night"? It's because our mind is cluttered. We're tempted to live guilty because of past mistakes and bitter over what didn't work out. It's easy to go around worried about our future, stressed over our finances, frustrated with our boss. I want to talk to you today аbout: "Unclutter Your Mind". Norway rat experiments Ĭalhoun pursued his experiments in behavior, using domesticated Norway rats, at his lab on the second floor of a huge barn on the Casey farm in the country outside Rockville, MD. 1954 was also the year his second daughter, Cheshire Calhoun, was born. He worked for Walter Reed Army Medical Center in the division of neuropsychiatry before gaining his position at the National Institutes of Health in 1954 where he worked for the next 33 years. In 1951, Calhoun and family moved back to Silver Spring, Maryland. The family lived in the guesthouse on the Luquer estate. While in Bar Harbor, his first daughter, Cat Calhoun, was born. While posted at Jackson Lab in Bar Harbor, Maine, Calhoun continued studying the Norway rat colony until 1951. He noted that twelve rats is the maximum number that can live harmoniously in a natural group, beyond which stress and psychological effects function as group break-up forces. Moreover, the rats were not randomly scattered throughout the pen area, but had organized themselves into twelve or thirteen local colonies of a dozen rats each. Even though five females over this time-span could theoretically produce 5,000 healthy progeny for this size pen, Calhoun found that the population never exceeded 200 individuals, and stabilized at 150. In March 1947, he began a 28-month study of a colony of Norway rats in a 10,000-square-foot (930 m 2) outdoor pen. Calhoun worked on the Rodent Ecology Project at Johns Hopkins University. In 1946, he and his wife, Edith, moved to Towson, Maryland, a suburb of Baltimore. Career Early rat studies Īfter graduating from Northwestern, he taught at Emory University and Ohio State University. Ĭalhoun met his future wife, Edith Gressley, at Northwestern, where she was a biology major and a student in one of his classes. The subject of his thesis was the 24-hour rhythms of the Norway rat. During the summers, he worked for Alexander Wetmore, head of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., doing ornithology work. ĭespite his father's refusal to help him attend an out-of-state university, Calhoun made his way to the University of Virginia where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1939. His first published article was in The Migrant, the journal of the Tennessee Ornithological Society when he was 15 years old. Calhoun spent his junior high and high school years banding birds and recording the habits of birds. Laskey, distinguished for her work in bird banding and in the study of the chimney swift, was a pivotal influence on his developing interest in birds and bird habits. At this time, Calhoun began attending meetings of the Tennessee Ornithological Society. Ĭalhoun's family moved from Elkton to Brownsville, Tennessee, and finally to Nashville, when Calhoun was in junior high school. His father was a high school principal who rose to a position in administration in the Tennessee Department of Education. Calhoun had three siblings: an older sister, Polly and two younger brothers, Billy and Dan. John Calhoun was born May 11, 1917, in Elkton, Tennessee, the third child of James Calhoun and Fern Madole Calhoun. Calhoun's rat studies were used as a basis in the development of Edward T. He spoke at conferences around the world and his opinion was sought by groups as diverse as NASA and the District of Columbia's Panel on overcrowding in local jails. During his studies, Calhoun coined the term " behavioral sink" to describe aberrant behaviors in overcrowded population density situations and "beautiful ones" to describe passive individuals who withdrew from all social interaction. He claimed that the bleak effects of overpopulation on rodents were a grim model for the future of the human race. John Bumpass Calhoun (– September 7, 1995) was an American ethologist and behavioral researcher noted for his studies of population density and its effects on behavior. |
